SEED Schools

SEED schools are high-performing, college-preparatory boarding schools that serve under-resourced communities.  SEED schools provide an academically rigorous middle and high school option to urban families and students who seek a high-quality education.

As public schools, SEED schools are tuition-free and may not choose their students.  In every year of The SEED School of Washington D.C.'s existence, the number of applications has exceeded the number of spaces available; to determine enrollment, the School holds an annual lottery.

The SEED Foundation currently operates one school in D.C., and in August 2008 welcomed the first class of students to SEED's new Maryland campus. Plans are underway for an additional school in the District, and feasibility studies are ongoing in Wisconsin, Ohio, and New Jersey.
